Washington DC (Mr Naik) - The National Council of Asian Indian Associations Inc. with other community organizations such as The Sikhs of America, Hunt valley Indian Association and Asian Indians for Community Services organized a face to face meeting and Open House between community members and officials from the Consular Services of Indian Embassy at Elk ridge, a suburb of Baltimore.
The meeting was held at the Center for Social Change, 6600 Amberton Drive, Elkridge, Maryland on Saturday February 25, 2017. Embassy officials A.K. Sinha ( Minister of Consular affairs) N. K. Mishra ( Minister of Community Affairs) Swapan Chattopadhyay ( First Secretary) P. C. Mishra ( Second Secretary) along with C.S.Rawat and Srinibas babu Uppala, attended the meeting. They answered questions from community members regarding visa, passport, O C I and PIO services. The officials made it clear that the Indian Embassy in Washington D.C. is open 24/7 to help community members in emergency situations. They handed out their official cards with telephone number and e-mail address. There were about 100 people in the audience. Some of them brought specific problems to the attention of the officials and were satisfied with the genuine attempt by the officials to help them. Ashok Batra esq. moderated the meeting. He was helped by Surinder Singh Gill and Baljinder “Sammy“ Singh.
Jasdeep Singh Jasse, the Chairman of Sikhs of America welcomed the panel and the guests. Pavan Bezwada, President of NCAIA Inc. introduced the panel and the agenda and told about all the good works NCAIA Inc. has been doing in the past.. Dr. Suresh K.Gupta, Chairman of the organization, gave the vote of thanks. Adappa Prasad, who has been appointed as an official liaison between the community and the embassy said that the present government goes out of its way to help diaspora members. He gave several examples and thanked embassy officials for their helpfulness. The meeting was attended by notable community members like Prabhujit Singh Kohli, Kaleem Kawaja, kanwaljit singh soni convenor Sikh affairs FOBJP ,Satpal singh brar chief spokesman SAD USA ,Nagendar Madhavram and many others gurdwara dignities from metropolitan area of D.C. The guests were welcomed with bouquets of flower by Arundoti Goswami, Alka Batra, Soma Berman and others. As its community outreach. The National Council of Asian Indian Associations Inc. plans to hold more events like this in future in different parts of the metropolitan Washington area.
